Le Grenier
This sunny, handsomely renovated apartment – called Le Grenier – is on the estate of Château de la Trousse, which is situated in rolling green countryside about 45 minutes by car east of Paris. The château is a 5-minute drive from the village of Lizy-sur-Ourcq, in the département of Seine-et-Marne. Created in 2004 by an American architect, the apartment was constructed from scratch in the hayloft of the château’s ancient barn. The barn is one of four out-buildings called La Cour because they are grouped around a large central courtyard.
Le Grenier has a sunny and open feeling, and is spacious at 100 m2 (1,076 sq. ft.) loi Carrez of usable living space distributed over three levels. There are two bedrooms plus a sleeping loft, two full bathrooms with showers, a fully-equipped kitchen, and dining and living rooms.
The apartment has a washer and dryer, dishwasher, and stove with a full oven – all included in the sales price. The central heating system is electric. The apartment is in turnkey condition, and its attractive furnishings, which include comfortable beds, may be purchased in part or in full. The apartment is also fully equipped to attract a high-quality rental clientele for short-term lets, and thus has a flat-screen TV, DVD player, wireless Internet access and other renter-friendly amenities.
The apartment rooms are ranged on three floors. The first level consists of the entry hall; on the second level are the living and dining rooms, kitchen, a guest bedroom and bath; and on the third are the master suite and loft. The three levels are linked by stairs that are steep at points.
Château de la Trousse
Château de La Trousse, which has been gorgeously restored to its former grandeur, is a private, multi-family residence with owners of many nationalities. Currently there are 35 owners, principally with professional backgrounds from countries in North America and Western Europe.
The estate dates back more than 300 years. The original château was ransacked during the French Revolution and rebuilt in the late 1800s. The out-buildings, including the structures that now form La Cour, vary in age but are all part of the original château property.
The grounds of Château de la Trousse cover 18 hectares (45-acres). The estate has a gated entrance and is enclosed by a stone wall. A caretaker and his family live full-time on the property.
The property consists of the château, the Orangerie, La Cour, the greenhouse and gardens. The grounds include a sweeping lawn, a forest and a fruit orchard. Recent additions to the château’s amenities are a swimming pool and tennis court.
Elegant country living within easy reach of Paris
Le Grenier is well-situated for those who want to experience country living in France with convenient access to Paris and its major transportation hubs. Charles de Gaulle Airport is a 45-minute drive, and Orly Airport 70 minutes. It is an easy to drive to central Paris on the Autoroute (A 4), although even more convenient is the 30-minute train ride from the closest village, Lizy-sur-Ourcq, to Paris’ Gare de l’Est.
Lizy-sur-Ourcq has everything for daily shopping needs. With other villages in the immediate area that also have interesting food shops, château residents enjoy a wide selection of everything from bakeries to restaurants.
Also of interest is the Champagne region, the cathedral at Reims, Fontainebleau and the artists’ village of Barbizon – all within an hour’s drive (and - for the younger set, Euro Disney, 43 km). There are three fine golf courses within 20 minutes of the château and others a little further away.
